The Deseret Peak Loop Trail
The standard route is a challenging **8.2-mile loop trail** with approximately 3,600 feet of elevation gain. The trail begins at the Loop Campground in Mill Fork Canyon, climbing steep alpine ridges to offer 360-degree views of the Tooele Valley, the Great Salt Lake, and the distant Wasatch Range.
Trail Conditions & Season
The hiking season typically runs from **late June through October**. Snow patches often block high ridges into early summer. Hikers should pack plenty of water, as there are limited water sources on the ridge lines, and watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms.
Wilderness Rules & Protection
- No Motorized Vehicles: The wilderness area is strictly protected; no motorized equipment or bicycles are allowed.
- Leave No Trace: Pack out all trash, camp at least 200 feet away from lakes/streams, and do not disturb local wildlife.
