Community Overview & Local History

Located in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley, Taylorsville, Utah offers suburban neighborhoods with quick access to regional business centers. Established by pioneer farming families in 1848, Taylorsville grew as a residential area before incorporating as a city in 1996. Today, it hosts Salt Lake Community College and multiple public parks along the Jordan River Parkway.

Taylorsville was settled in 1848 by John Taylor and other pioneer families who established farms along the Jordan River. For nearly 150 years, the area was known as part of the unincorporated Granger-Hunter-Taylorsville community. In 1996, residents voted to incorporate to gain local control over planning, zoning, and municipal services.
