Deseret Peak, rising to an elevation of 11,031 feet, is the highest point in the Stansbury Mountains and the central landmark of the Deseret Peak Wilderness. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, this wilderness area covers over 25,000 acres, offering steep canyons, high-elevation alpine basins, and dramatic views of the Great Salt Lake and surrounding desert basins.

The Deseret Peak Wilderness was designated by Congress in 1990 to preserve the unique high-altitude desert ecology of the Stansbury Range. Unlike the wetter Wasatch Range to the east, the Stansbury Mountains rise directly out of the Great Basin, serving as a biological island with unique flora and fauna adapted to high-elevation arid conditions.

The Deseret Peak Loop Trail is a popular but demanding 7.5-mile hike that gains over 3,600 feet of elevation. The trail winds through groves of Douglas fir and aspen before climbing alpine meadows to the rocky summit. South Willow Canyon, at the base of the peak, offers multiple developed campgrounds and picnic sites along Clover Creek.

The primary highlight is the Deseret Peak Loop Trail summit, which offers 360-degree views of the Great Salt Lake, the Salt Lake Valley, and the Nevada deserts. Other points of interest include South Willow Creek, multiple trailheads (South Willow Lake, Medina Flat), and the scenic geological formations of the Oquirrh and Stansbury ranges.
