Setting Up Utilities in Utah

Depending on your municipal county or city, electric, gas, water, and trash services are either managed directly by the city or through major private utilities:

  • Electricity: Rocky Mountain Power serves the majority of the Wasatch Front and Back.
  • Natural Gas: Dominion Energy provides natural gas services to most Utah communities.
  • Water & Waste Management: Typically managed by your local municipality. Check your specific City Guide for official utility links.

Registering Your Vehicle & Driver License

New residents have 60 days to register vehicles and obtain a Utah Driver License:

  • Driver License Division (DLD): Visit an official DLD location to take a written exam, vision screening, and transfer your license.
  • Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV): Requires safety/emissions certificates (in select counties like Salt Lake and Davis) to obtain license plates.
