Cedar Fort was settled in 1852 by pioneers who constructed a large adobe fort to protect their livestock. The town was named after the abundance of cedar trees in the area. During the late 1850s, the town hosted troops from Johnston’s Army stationed at nearby Camp Floyd, which brought substantial trade and economic activity to the valley.
